Like when we brought Chris TREMLETT in 2010/11?

Re: 2nd Test England v South Africa at Trent Bridge
I was thinking of 2013/14 when someone on here told me the giant fast bowlers were going to bounce Australia into oblivion on their own pitches.

I understand in November we are going for Starc, Cummins and Pattinson.
And 18 yard pitches

Root as captain is panning out as expected, I really don't get this just pick your best batsman as captain thing, you need to identify someone who is a leader of men, he just isn't. And this review thing is becoming a joke, he just has no idea what to do, looks fucking scared to make a decision, completely clueless.

He should be batting at 3, and England need to identify players in county cricket who are made of the right stuff, not just pick on averages, which is what has happened with Jennings and Balance.

I can't stop son, it's grinding my gears too much.

I'm glad you're happy about things currently, though.

Re: 2nd Test England v South Africa at Trent Bridge
Wouldn't say I'm happy especially, but it's where we are as a team currently. We lost 8 test matches last year so this isn't a massive surprise.

Our batting is fragile, our seam bowling non existent beyond the two old boys, and our best spinner is a batsman. Doesn't add up to a great side.

Re: 2nd Test England v South Africa at Trent Bridge
Well, it doesn't really help when you keep picking the same players that have failed, does it? I simply don't buy the assertion that there are no better batsmen in England then Gary Ballance. And what the fuck is Dawson all about? These are not players who are going to take the Aussies on, so why the fuck pick them? Ballance will be atrocious out there, they'll give him a proper going over, but he's Root's pal, so he'll be there 'batting' at 3.

Also, Stokes is not a number 6 batsman, and Jennings is just not up to opening, with Cook's current form we need someone solid there.

Re: 2nd Test England v South Africa at Trent Bridge
Don't disagree with any of that. But you get WOAKES back fit and in for Wood and that solves plenty of issues. Stokes 6, Ali 7, WOAKES 8, and both batting and bowling look better. Then you can play Mason CRANE as a proper spin option instead of bits and pieces players like Dawson.

Top 5 is more of a challenge I think. Personally I'd pick Tom WESTLEY. Sure people will think it's Essex bias, but the reality us that the lions is there for a reason- and he made a hundred against Australia when they toured, and a hundred against South Africa this summer. Root should be batting 3, and he also needs to sort out his conversion rate. He has 12 hundreds (28 fifties) from 54 games. Steve fucking Smith has 20 from 54 games.

Re: 2nd Test England v South Africa at Trent Bridge
Do I remember correctly (or not) that Graeme Smith once declared South Africa's innings allowing England an outside chance of winning? His purpose was to make a game of what remained in the match, but was left with egg on his face when England did manage to reach their target.

Probably Cronje and his match fixing?

Re: 2nd Test England v South Africa at Trent Bridge
Agree about Woakes, I'm a big fan, and to be honest I don't think there's much difference between him and Stokes as batsmen. And I liked the look of Crane in the T20, and he's clearly going to be so many levels above Dawson, so why the fuck not give him a chance in this series to expose him and see if he's good enough for the Ashes? Because Dawson is never going to be.

Also, someone like Dawad Malan should be in before Ballance, he has done it for the Lions, and again in that T20 game he looked like someone who grows when he's playing internationals, they are the type of men you need to give a chance to.
